To destroy the legacy of Christ may be the goal of many black metal bands but to me the whole black metal concept has become rather watered-down. Therefore, when I read the song titles on this debut album from the young Polish band Tenebrosus, I wasn't too excited. "In The Name Of Christ!", "Crucify" and "The Fallen Arrive" are examples of the kind of generic lyrics that I find redundant these days. They might as well have been replaced with random letters from the alphabet and still they would have made the same impression on me, that is none whatsoever. Luckily music isn't about the lyrical content and what Tenebrosus lack in words they make up for in noise. After all, if they were talented writers they would have written books instead of music. This Polish band have been around since the year 2000 but it is only now that the native label Metal Mind Productions have given them the chance to release their first album. This is an album full of fast-paced black metal violence in the vein of early Marduk and Dark Funeral. Sometimes the band relax for a while and replace the speed with slower and more atmospheric sections. This is where Tenebrosus show themselves at their best but the speed is also necessary if they want to maintain the aggressive edge. According to the label this album comes with both disturbing cover artwork and provocative lyrics. Disturbing artwork, well, yes, it looks completely awful. Provocative lyrics, maybe to some people but who really cares? "The Fall Of Worthless Morals" (how can morals be worthless, don't you create your own?) is a decent first effort from a band who are wonderful at their best but still a little too uneven to compete with the more experienced bands in their genre. Stand-out tracks: "In The Name Of Christ!" and "Purifying Flames".
