REVIEW: Tenhi - Airut: Aamujen Prophecy Productions, 2006
8/10
Tenhi - Airut: Aamujen - cover art Atavism is a cool thing for me, that must be said. Pride, personality, a style of their own; the significance of a brand, of a name. That´s the reason I always remark the relevance of the compromise, the essence of a will. “Airut:Aamujen” was originally edited in 2004 under the band name Harmaa (“Grey”), a side project of two Tenhi members, since the music hereby portrayed was far away from the Tenhi spirit. However, probably due to the small scale production and distribution carried out when launched to the scene, the guys have decided to re-release it as another Tenhi album, to be more precise as the second chapter of the “Airut” saga, according to their own words. I won´t deny we´re talking about a beautiful album, but it´s been an error to release it on the Tenhi catalogue. Allegedly it was going to be similar to some piano raids performed in songs as “Kielo”, though there are many differences between Harmaa and Tenhi. Yes, the tracks are piano-driven, and more accessible as well, despite one could imagine keys straying in descriptive moods, a Tenhi classic weapon. This is not the case. The song patterns are quite more straight here than in the latter Tenhi albums. Some loose details reveal both differences and similarities between the band´s trademark and the style performed in this collection of songs. Here the drumming is far more conventional, the notes sequences are more predictable and even commercial (taking this word on a non-negative meaning, this is no MTV stuff indeed), the whole has got a strong friendly feeling, duets between male and female vocals are sort of organic, dissonances are pretty scarce... here one could miss that eerie Tenhi essence, the mystery, the ability to surprise the listener. As for the things in common, here you won´t be disappointed regarding the flawless arrangements, the clean sound, the crystalline colours, the calmness breathing. These (in)human beings are shiver-makers with tones of good taste and sensitiveness, unable to make cheap albums. Not a “real” Tenhi release, though quite appealing after all.
