REVIEW: The Berzerker - World Of Lies Earache Records, 2005
9/10
The Berzerker - World Of Lies - cover art Geezus. This would have been on my top list of records released in 2005 if I had heard it in time. This is one hell of an album. The earlier records by The Berzerker I thought were highly overrated, but this is an entirely different story. I never thought I'd like this album the way I now do, but they got me, the bastards. So, what has improved then? First, and most important of course, the songs themselves. When the earlier records were fast, but in fact quite lame, these tunes talk for themselves. Now it's not only original, but well done as well. Secondly they have managed to get an incredibly well heard, while still ripping, guitar sound and that's something I find essential when playing this type of music. I would be very surprised if they used any amps on this record. Some might call it cheating using V-amp like equipment, but here it's genious. There are really only one big flaw: Drumming machine. This is in my book really annoying. This is still done well, and I'm willing to forgive them for this. In time. With a drummer of flesh and blood, this could have been a 10-pointer. They are still The Berzerker, but now they have the material to back it up. Highly recommended, and by far their best release so far. I'll finish this with a suitable quote from the film Clerks: ”Would you like some making fuck, berzerker?”
