Born in the year 2000 this Dutch band was chosen indeed by their native friends Blazing Productions to release their debut album for their label, resulting in the release of this debut album which features eight new songs and two tracks - "Wolfcross" and "Blood" - from their 2002 demo. First of all I must say that I really like the artwork for this album. It is low-res and simple without excessive details and colors. It suits the music of the band well as this is a very primitive and sinister album. With that kind of a cover you might expect this to be drenched in repeated Darkthrone riffs. To some degree you're not entirely wrong if that was your guess because it shows that these young boys have had their share of Darkthrone but they have taken a much more thrashier approach which should make them a lot more interesting to some of you who are tired of listening to the hundreds of Darkthrone clones who are out there. Nocturno Culto and Fenriz should be pleased with the way The Chosen have used their sound to create this album and their own sound. Unfortunately it doesn't quite hold up all the way through, at least not at the moment. This is meant to sound raw and unpolished but in this case a somewhat more powerful production would have added that extra bite needed to make you stick around for more. The Chosen need to sharpen their teeth a little before digging into your skin for real. There is some potential in here though and maybe next time the blood will start to flow.
