REVIEW: The Classic Struggle - Feel Like Hell Ironclad Recordings, 2005
7/10
The Classic Struggle - Feel Like Hell - cover art Straight out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, come The Classic Struggle. While the band's name is curious, their music really is not. Let it be said that this is a talented group of Metalcore musicians that embrace as much Thrash as Death Metal while also paying homage to Power Metal -- by way of Sweden, naturally -- and even Hardcore. Some "fun" comparisons might include a ponderous The Black Dahlia Murder or a more hashed out Unearth. In fact, the band is signed to Ironclad Recordings, the Metal Blade (home of TBDM) imprint of Unearth madman Trevor Phipps. Bludgeoning riffs and neck snapping breakdowns accompany harmonized guitars and hgiher pitched, harsh vocals. If you enjoy the current crop of U.S. bands blasting this brand of Metalcore that has become almost as popular as the wave before them that consisted of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall, etc., definitely give this a spin. Stand out tracks include the 4, 5, 6 trio of Amen to Artillery (with its brilliant intro/outro), The Forgotten End (which also invokes Suffocation nearer the end), and the Lamb of God sounding Unsacred.
