REVIEW: The Communion - Well Played, Illuminati Period Face Productions, 2005
7/10
The Communion - Well Played, Illuminati - cover art The Communion are young old school metal freaks that seem to have their shit together. Thrashy grindcore is what they throw at you, while breaking down the beats to fuck their songs up. This being a demo the production fits the music. The raw intensity boils down to a doom pace at times, only to grow stronger just like the calm before the storm type of thing. Their singer spews out venomous shrieks that Flesh Parade would be proud of. The guitars keep the machine rolling, while the drums could spark more creativity at times. Coming from the Long Island area, you can sense the New York styled frenzy at times, but even more is the old school hardcore influences that blast out. With only four songs to tear at my ears it’s hard to comment completely. The Communion are tight, and will prove a lot when given the chance. A band to look out for in a town near you!!
