REVIEW: The Company - Awaking Under Dogs System Shock, 2002
7.5/10
The Company - Awaking Under Dogs - cover art Finally a new old-style thrash metal album for all metal fans to bang their heads to. While most of the old Bay Area style bands died for different reasons in the mid-90's there were a few people who didn't want to give it up that easy. Some of the went in other directions to appeal to new crowds such as Machine Head while others didn't want to submit to the mainstream pressure. One of these was the former Heathen guitarist Doug Piercy who instead relocated to Germany and formed a new band called The Company together with Guido Krämer (ex-EnForce), Ingo Farrano (ex-Vamp, Weird Kong) and Peter Adamowicz. The band immediately had some success, especially in Japan where where they were signed first by Teichiku Records. Today they are one of several good bands on the German label System Shock (part of KMG Music). Today Piercy is no longer part of the band but they seem to be doing just fine without him. "Awaking Under Dogs" is the third full-length album from the band and it is a goldmine for fans of the classic thrash metal bands such as Exodus, Heathen, Forbidden and Testament. Even though the riffs are mostly classic thrash metal material there is a modern touch to the band and the third album from The Company feels everything but outdated. Every single track is full of energy, breath-taking intensity, catchy yet aggressive vocals and exceptional guitar work from Rhodmann / Haghgu. A wonderful journey back to the golden days of metal.
