REVIEW: The Company Of Snakes - Burst The Bubble Steamhammer Records, 2002
6.5/10
The Company Of Snakes - Burst The Bubble - cover art Whitesnake is one of the most important hard rock bands ever and a lot of fans were beside themselves with happiness when the original members Micky Moody, Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray came back together in the late nineties under the new name The Company Of Snakes. After a live album release in January and a successful European tour they have now written more than enough material to finish a new studio album. Except for the three original members from Whitesnake the line-up also features the drummer John Lingwood (Manfred Mann's Earthband, Roger Chapman, Elkie Brooks) and the Swedish vocalist Stefan Berggren. The music is perhaps not as full of energy and power as it was back in the glory days of Whitesnake but as you can notice already from the first short intro track of this album these guys are world class musicians even though they are rather old by now. The music is actually quite good yet somewhat soft hard rock with plenty of bluesy influences. The spirit of Whitesnake continues to live on through this album but it is still the albums from the late 70's and early 80's that you will remember these guys by. The biggest disappointment of this album is actually the vocalist who sound really weak compared to David Coverdale. This is still a good solid new release but if you don't like soft hard rock you should probably stay away from this album.
