REVIEW: The County Medical Examiners - Olidous Operettas Relapse Records, 2007
7/10
The County Medical Examiners - Olidous Operettas - cover art The County Medical Examiners started out as a Carcass tribute band in California in 2001, a given fact that saturates their entire debut album for Relapse Records. "Olidous Operettas" is a modern version of "Symphonies Of Sickness" but since Carcass has already existed once this album may not be of interest to you unless you just can't get enough of them. The overall sound as well as the lyrics and vocal are all very similar to what the British legends used to produce fifteen years ago. The production may be slightly too polished to appeal to old-school purists but it's definitely still far from crystal clear. The crazy grinders of The County Medical Examiners are not aspiring any awards for originality but nonetheless they have produced a very competent tribute album to Carcass. I will probably go back to listening to Necroticism though. If you're a big grindcore fan I don't think you can go wrong if you decide to pick this up.
