REVIEW: The Crown - Crowned In Terror Metal Blade Records, 2002
9/10
The Crown - Crowned In Terror - cover art When The Crown started out in 1990 as a regular garage band few would have believed that they would become the death metal machinery that they are today. Sweden has been one of the leading countries as it comes to death metal ever since Entombed, Dismember and others started out in the late 80's. The Crown is different from most others though. Their brand of death metal is faster, more ferocious and intense than what we are used to hear from the competition. No matter what band you come up with, they would not find it easy to keep up with the violent pace of this act. This is the fifth album from the band but it is the first not to feature the vocals of Johan Lindstrand who left the band in 2001 after eleven years of faithful service. His replacement is a very famous person on the Swedish metal / hardcore scene namely Tomas Lindberg whom you should know of from bands like At The Gates, The Great Deceiver and Grotesque. He does his job very well and this is one of the best vocal performances I have ever heard from a death metal band. This is one of the death metal highlights of the 21st century and they are definitely The Crown of Swedish death metal at the moment.
