REVIEW: The Dead - Real Zombies Never Die Nocturnal Music, 2003
6/10
The Dead - Real Zombies Never Die - cover art The Dead is a project formed by Dr. Jones (Linus Nirbrant) and Necrobarber (Tob Sillman), both of them former band mates in the Swedish death metal band Guidance Of Sin. With the help of the current Amon Amarth and former Guidance Of Sin drummer Fredrik Andersson they have recorded this mini album for the Italian label Nocturnal Music. First off I would like to congratulate The Dead for their lousy choice of font for the booklet which makes it quite difficult to read the song titles and lyrics. Perhaps they think it's cool but no matter how hard I try I see no point in it. There are not even 20 minutes of music on this mini album but it is still possible to get a pretty good impression of what The Dead is all about. This is partly because of the fact that the songs are all very similar. Some may say that this is a good thing because it keeps the coherent nature of an album while some of you probably think that there is not much creativity within the band. I don't have a problem when the songs of an album sound similar to each other but it eventually gets to me this time when it feels like I have been listening to the same track for the entire length of the cd. The Dead play what could basically be called death metal with some minor rock tendencies that could suit fans of bands like Gorelord, Necrophagia and perhaps even Gandalf. Not exactly a masterpiece or very memorable but enjoyable for a while.
