REVIEW: The Defaced - Domination Commence Scarlet Records, 2001
8/10
The Defaced - Domination Commence - cover art The Swedish metal scene has become more varied over the years and there are still lots of new high-quality bands popping up now and then. The Defaced is one of these although the band members are not really new to the metal scene. In this new constellation we can find both Henry Ranta from Soilwork and Jörgen Löfberg / Klas Ideberg from Darkane, two bands well-known to fans of Swedish metal of the darker kind. The Defaced do have a sound not extremely different from neither Soilwork nor Darkane but they sound fresher and a little nu-metal inspired. Sometimes they sound very much like Machine Head but more melodic and with a rougher edge. The flourishing thrash/death metal scene in Sweden is one of the most interesting in the world at the moment and it would be a surprise to me if we will not see many more great albums from these exceptional bands. The Defaced can still develop their sound further but killer groovy tracks like "Sown By Greed" and "Prozak Nation" make their debut well worth spending some money on.
