REVIEW: The Enchanted - For Those Who Fall... Golden Lake Productions, 2004
6.5/10
The Enchanted - For Those Who Fall... - cover art From Golden Lake Productions, we have a new 4-song MCD from England’s The Enchanted. A follow up to their 2002 full-length debut, Trust In Death And Rebirth, The Enchanted is new to me. The Enchanted play a mix of American thrash metal (some Bay Area elements) with a heavy dose of Scandinavian melodic death metal minus keyboards. The production is good (a bit bass heavy), the musicianship is good, but, unfortunately, this band simply does not make a strong impression. There are a million bands floating around out there that are playing in this style, and a band has to become distinctive to stand out from the pack. To me, the songwriting is rather derivative and lacks inspiration, and the band does not exude power. This is too bad, because all of the elements are here. Speed, a few blast beats, some crunchy riffs, death metal growls, and even a few clean vocals. Somehow, it just doesn’t all add up for me. So what’s going on here? Apparently, the band’s debut received some notoriety and strong reviews. Is this MCD composed of new material, or is it some rehashed previous material that didn’t make the debut? The promotional material says that this is a new MCD from the band. I sincerely hope that the band’s next release is able to address the cited problems and improve because all of the elements of a strong band are there.
