REVIEW: The Haunted - Live Rounds In Tokyo Earache Records, 2001
9/10
The Haunted - Live Rounds In Tokyo - cover art The Haunted have made a huge impression on the extreme metal scene and with two albums and one grammy award in their home country Sweden they have now also recorded a live album on their tour in the country of the rising sun. In one way I'm glad that At The Gates split up because otherwise we wouldn't have The Haunted but on the other hand At The Gates was also a magnificent band. The Björler brothers are simply amazing musicians and this is actually one of the first times I have been impressed by a live album. Usually I'm not too fond of live recordings because I don't think they serve any purpose and I still don't... However, The Haunted is one of the best live bands I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying (I have seen them twice so far) and, unlike the recent In Flames live album (also recorded in Japan btw), this album manages to capture at least something of the feeling that comes with a real show. I will still not spend any money on a live recording but if you enjoy these discs and also The Haunted I would definitely recommend this album. If you are interested the album was recorded at Akasaka Blitz, Tokyo, Japan on the 16th of November 2000.
