REVIEW: The Haunted - The Haunted Made Me Do It Earache Records, 2000
10/10
The Haunted - The Haunted Made Me Do It - cover art The second album from the Swedish band The Haunted, built in the ashes of the great At The Gates, contains close to 40 minutes of murderous death metal. The music is very melodic and similar to other Swedish bands like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity but a little thrashier and more aggressive. The Björler brothers manage to keep the At The Gates sound alive and this album is even better than all ATG albums. The growling vocals are still there but they are a little darker and cleaner done by Marco Aro who sounds more like Mikael Åkerblad of Opeth than Tomas Lindberg of At The Gates. The quality of Swedish metal is still very high as shown by this release and The Haunted is one of the really big death/thrash bands today among others like In Flames, Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. The music is very melodic, fast and aggressive like At The Gates once were and hopefully we will see more albums from this band in the future. As usual with Swedish productions you can not complain about the sound quality which is close to perfect. The album was recorded at Berno Studio, Malmö, between Dec. 1999 and Feb. 2000, engineered by Berno Paulsson, mastered by Göran Finnberg at The Mastering Room. The cover artwork was done by Andreas "Diaz" Pettersson. Great work!
