This band is relatively new, and I've been hearing some good stuff about them. I even read that they were touring with Strapping Young Lad and Six Feet Under, two bands that I have a appreciated for some time. So it goes without saying that I assumed these guys would be at least somewhat good. Initial reaction: what the fuck IS this?! This stuff is absolute shit, I mean, this is worse than the new Machine Head album, "From the Ashes of Empire". While I didn't like that one, I still gave it credit for at least being a good metalcore album, but this? This album is pure coaster material. The only reason I don't give it a lower rating is because "Reflections" was a decent song and the mix was generally good. The band certainly has a few moments where they seem to get something going, but then quickly fall back into the abyss. My primary concern with this album is the overt lack of flow, or "groove." The songs never really get a steady rythm going, instead they stagger, often using far too many stacatto-ridden choruses that have a near complete lack of melody. I am not going to lie and try to argue that I don't dislike this a bit more than the average listener might since I'm prone to rag on metalcore, but this is a bad album. See the link -> http://www.theheavils.com/meanies.html Back to the music: The little cutesy riffs thrown in on occasion are entirely out of place, and there is no excuse for their inclusion other than a fruitless attempt at adding a little humor to the album. Even the title track begs to be trashed. Cliché lyrical content, boring melodic progressions, and staggered rythm, everything you would expect from your average shitty act, but not what you would expect from a band that is gaining popularity! I truly don't see what the hype about this band is. This album is garbage, and the only possible benefit you'll get from buying this is the satisfaction of crushing it after listening a second time to make sure you didn't hear the whole thing wrong by accident.
