The Machete’s record “Regression” does not give a very positive first impression. Yellow with a few black scratches, the cover is just as ugly as it is boring. The Finnish quartet does however repair that impression to some extent in the first seconds of the opening track “True Nature”. Unfortunately it all falls down again as Tuomo starts singing, at times he offers a growl that is good and suitable for the music, but most times it is just not enough. “Regression” is The Machete’s debut album and it is released on Spinefarm Records. The sound is mostly thrash metal with occasional influences from hardcore and new-metal. It is nothing that we haven’t heard many times before in far better versions than this. In some tracks, like “Turned To Dust”, "The Taint" and "Bitter End“ there are parts with clean vocals that are quite good. The calm, atmospheric “Bitter End” is by far the strongest track on the record and is a great closure to an otherwise lame debut album.
