REVIEW: The Mighty Nimbus - The Mighty Nimbus Threeman Recordings, 2004
7.5/10
The Mighty Nimbus - The Mighty Nimbus - cover art The Mighty Nimbus was created in 2002 by members of Alabama Thunderpussy and Sixty Watt Shaman. Influenced by genre defining bands such as Crowbar, Saint Vitus, Entombed and The Obsessed the beast they had awoken was bound to be a mean and heavy one. Sabbath-esque riffing has been geared up a notch, building the foundation together with bluesy guitar licks and a sludgy feeling from the southern states. Behind the microphone Dan Soren offer both monstrous growls and raw stoner rock vocals with great success. The Mighty Nimbus give and take from their favorite musical styles and if you're a fan of both early Black Sabbath and the modern sludgecore scene you have found the perfect band for you here. The smell of Louisiana is very strong but they do not limit themselves but try to introduce some interesting ideas in the song writing which is rock solid. Down-tuned, heavy as a really heavy thing and not getting stuck in the past nor standard concepts and modern trends.
