REVIEW: The Prophecy - To End All Hope (EP) Self-financed, 2002
7/10
The Prophecy - To End All Hope (EP) - cover art The Prophecy is a new act from the British isles. I don't know much about this band except for the fact that they have recorded a demo called "Her Embrace My Ruin" prior to this release which I haven't heard. This is my first encounter with the band so please bare with me. These three young men are not afraid of broadening their horizons and look past the limiting confounds of metal. This doesn't mean that they are not playing metal though. "To End All Hope" is a mix of the early death and doom metal scene in Great Britain. This album also shows the band's first attempt of incorporating Persian scales in their music which makes it sound different from the average run of the mill release. Shifting from atmospheric keyboards and nature samples to violent death metal riffs this album also displays a wide range of emotions while almost exclusively focusing on the darker matters of the mind. The music is interesting and although the growling is not exceptionally well done it is definitely good enough. If you want to be taken back to the early days of My Dying Bride with a slight touch of Opeth you might want to check out this British band. There is even some violin played on the album by a girl called Karen Macloud.
