From the small city of Mönsterås hails the leaders of Swedish stoner metal - The Quill. Several successful albums into their career already they continue to impress me with their gloomy and groovy guitar driven songs. Their latest gift (well, you need to buy it of course) to mankind is suitably entitled "In Triumph". Memorable songs, well structured and characteristic songs that do not melt into one grey lump and, last but not least, the powerful vocals from Magnus Ekwall, make sure that the listener's attention will be maintained in a tight grip throughout the whole album. Many bands fail on at least one of these counts and with the tough competition of today it is something you can not afford if you wish to experience a successful career in the music business. A clean, sharp and powerful production from Tommy Newton makes it even more difficult to list any negative remarks about "In Triumph". If you fancy modern stoner rock / metal performed by professional musicians it is hard to go wrong with The Quill. Mr. Ekwall has a voice that has been tailor made for rock music and he knows how to make the most of it.
