REVIEW: The Suicide Machines - War Profiteering Is Killing Us All Side One Dummy Records, 2005
8/10
The Suicide Machines - War Profiteering Is Killing Us All - cover art The Suicide Machines are back with their 6th studio album ‘War Profiteering Is Killing Us All’. Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, ALL, Descendents) has once again produced this quartets political outburst. The Suicide Machines blends hardcore with punk and ska. The opening track ‘War Profiteering Is Killing Us All’ is intense punk that sets the standard for the lyrics with lines like “Capitalist scumbag you’ve been warned”. Throughout the album the lyrics are filled with political rage and deal with topics like pollution and capitalist greed. The band's ska songs are good, but when they slow it down to a dub reggae sound mixed with some hardcore screams in 'I Went On Tour...' it gets even better. Jason Navarro’s screaming vocals are intense and my favourite tracks on the record are the more hardcore influenced ‘All Systems Fail’ and ‘Red Flag’. There are few bands that manage to combine such different genres like hardcore and ska. Suicide Machines does that with a consistently good result and overall high quality. ‘War Profiteering Is Killing Us All’ has something for the hardcore head as well as the punk.
