REVIEW: The Wounded - Monument Cold Blood Industries, 2002
7/10
The Wounded - Monument - cover art The Wounded is one of many new Dutch bands who have made it onto the European metal market. Mixing influences from bands like The Cure, Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Anathema they created a very successful debut album entitled "The Art Of Grief" in 2000 which was praised by the European metal media. Now they are back with their second art of grief because their new material is also sad, melancholic and dark just as gothic rock / metal is meant to be like. These dark Dutch souls are trying to express real life emotions like hate, desolation, desire, love and pain through their music. They are doing a very good job too, much thanks to the wailing vocals from Marco van der Velde who also did a guest appearance on the latest album from Dutch black metallers Salacious Gods. You can feel the torment in every word when his vocal chords are heard echoing in your head. This album is not always black but this is the predominant color of the mood carried by the music. The music of The Wounded is emotionally very powerful and if you are a fan of gothic rock with a touch of metal than you might want to check out this band as they may very well surprise you.
