REVIEW: Theory In Practice - Third Eye Function Pulverised Records, 1997
9/10
Theory In Practice - Third Eye Function - cover art Having unleashed 3 releases since '97, I'm surprised, and a little disappointed that it was only up until recently that I had given Theory In Practice the attention they deserve, and furthermore I so crave.Thankfully I was re-introduced to Theory In Practice by a reliable source. Being presented with a second chance to really experience T.I.P it's been proven to me that each album offers song after song of blistering force. The first, in particular, of the existing trio of composed insanity is one that any fan of metal should not be without. To say that these guys understand music would be a huge understatement. Chaotic, but catchy, the songs are created with typical swedish death/thrash influences and progressive elements. But typical they are not. The frenzied guitar riffs provided by Peter Lake and Johan Ekman are charged by the brute force of Henrik Ohlsson on drums and the murmuring bass and keyboards provided by Mattias Engstrand. The lead vocals are delivered by Johan with elemental intensity as if to say "shut up , open your mind, and listen you fuck!" I think they succeed. Although the lyrical content is beyond that. Very eccentric and complex, completed with really melodic guitar solos, electric and acoustic, that when heard tend to take you by surprise since you just got your ass kicked by previous concentrated brutality. The bands name, Theory In Practice, says it all. Highly reccomended. Also check out "Armageddon Theories" (2000) and "Colonizing The Sun" (2002).
