Everyone who has heard Therion knows what to expect from
their releases - fast very melodic guitar riffs mixed with classical music and
opera choir singing. That is also what most of this album consists of although
there are some classic heavy metal vocals as well. This album does not include
any new Therion songs since it is the celebration of the band's 10th year
anniversary. The three first songs are old ones that did not fit into the
"Theli" release including a cover version of the Scorpions song "Fly To The
Rainbow" from 1974 (not a very good one). On the first two songs Dan Swanö
stood for the oral duties. Tracks four and five are pretty good cover versions
of Iron Maiden and Running Wild. The vocals on "Under Jolly Roger" were done
by Tobbe Sidegård (Necrophobic, Sin) and additional guitars on the same track
by the famous Swede Peter Tägtgren, who also helped Therion produce these
tracks. Track six is an extremely good remixed instrumental version of one of
the band's older songs and the seventh one is a Judas Priest cover. Tracks
8-11 are remixed versions of the soundtrack next to be mentioned where the
band simply added drums, bass and guitar upon the original ones. The final
part of this recording consists of a soundtrack Christofer Johnson did alone
for a Swedish art movie called "The Golden Embrace". This is purely
classical music played by the Bambek Symphonic Orchestra with vocals done by a
six man and women strong opera choir. Except from composing all songs (not the
covers of course...) and producing many of them, Christofer Johnson also plays
guitar, bass, keyboards, hammond organ and grand piano on this album - he is a
true musical genious and definitely one of the best in the world! This is not
one of Therion's best albums but it is worth buying if you like their
music.
