Most of you probably don’t care, but the fact is that I just moved to Toronto recently, and the first logical thing for me to do was to find out where the shows were and what the local scene was like. On the process of that quest for Canadian metal, I ended up at a Kittie show when this guy approached me with a sticker of his band that would perform that night. We talked for a while and he ended up giving me a promo of their forthcoming album. As you may have already guessed the band was Thine Eyes Bleed. I was so blown away by their show that the first thing I did when getting home was plying the CD and well here are my thoughts: the CD is an attack of melodic death/thrash metal, exquisitely seasoned by catchy and aggressive head banging riffs finely supported by excellent drumming and bass lines, needless to say about the vocals which sometimes remind me of Carcass, Heartwork era. The band altogether spits nothing but straight anger in your face. In general I find Thine Eyes Bleed music very eclectic, you can tell these guys although trying to define themselves into a style, incorporate various elements from many tendencies, still you can feel there’s a constant influence of Slayer and bands such as The Haunted, Terror 2000, Soilwork and At The Gates. The opening track, Cold Victim, might perfectly be the single for the album, catchy, aggressive and representative of what the band is about. Then Without Warning, a more chaotic and straightforward sonic attack that “without warning” takes you onto a frenzy state that just makes you want to get into the pit and beat the shit out of everybody. And since forgotten starts with a very Slayerish guitar tune, that eventually moves into a more melodic effort, less aggressive still enjoyable. Live To Die has this whole vibe along the song very reminiscent of At The Gates, the only thing I don’t like about it is the clean vocals, it lessens aggressiveness and it feels like it doesn’t fit there. Corpse You Up keeps that melodic constant from Live To Die but ads more tempo and mood changes; it’s a very versatile song. Innocent Mind brings more rage into the picture combined with good soloing and setting up the stage for Sliver that perfectly complements the song with a slower paced but heavier mood which gives the same feeling I get when listening to Morbid Angel’s Where The Slime Live. Consequence Unknown switches to a more thrashy structure keeping the desperation factor in the air to finally let all the anger out again with Regret Your Fear. There’s still no information available on when and through what label will the album be released, meanwhile, check their website to listen some advance of the album as well as to check out their video clip.
