The extreme
metal scene in South America has been growing to become very strong today and
there are a row of bands who have reached international success. One of those
who still try to gain a reputation for themselves are Thornafire from
Santiago, the capital of Chile, a country that has produced bands like
Pentagram and Criminal in the past. Not unlike most other other bands from the
region they have decided to play brutal death metal since their formation back
in 1998. In 1999 they recorded their one and only demo "Granted For All
Somberness" which was quite well received in the metal media. In the summer
of 2001 they recorded this their first mini album at SADE studios with Eduardo
Díaz from Devilish handling the drums. Juan Pablo Donoso of Sadism produced
the album. Thornafire consists of some very able musicians and they are also
equipped with a strong growler who is giving it all behind the microphone.
Fans of Deicide should be interested in getting to know this band. They still
have to improve in the future though if they want to take their musical
careers to the next level. There are some nice riffs and the music is overall
well performed but they need to put in a little more effort when it comes to
song writing since their music of today easily gets a little monotonous. They
could also benefit from a better production but that will not become a reality
until they are awarded with the support of a label. A pretty good and forceful
first effort that should please fans of brutal death metal, especially if you
are from South America. Stand-out tracks: "The
Hallucination".
