With so many directions on heavy music nowadays, leading to the rise of more varied and eclectic bands, it’s becoming harder to explain or “label” them into a specific style, and that’s the case with Throne Apart, a multifaceted 5 piece from Toronto who are not afraid to experiment and merge together all their various influences into the five pieces of chaos included in their self titled EP. Lyrically, although not necessarily explicit at all, they put a lot of despair, and anger which translates into vocalist Juri Rollo switching from clean to guttural vocals and all kinds of scream ranges in between, in order to fit all the mood and tempo changes along the songs that could go from a ballad kinda sound, to a very incongruent overdose of maniacal hard core/grind that easily reminds you of OLD or SORE THROAT like they do on Infested Line. Then you have a song like Failed Virtue that could take you back to DRI, CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER and add some MACABRE feeling to it. So in a nutshell, what we have here is a very versatile band not apt for the closed minded. My only complain is that after having seen these guys live, it’s a shame that the recording lacked on capturing the craziness and power Throne Apart emanates live, which I’m pretty sure will be improved with a better production on their next recording. Line up: Juri Rollo, Vocals; Rouzbeh Heydari, Guitar; Yegor Zakharov, Guitar; Adrian Kent, Bass; Jory Lane, Drums.
