Thurisaz is a Belgian five-piece that has released Circadian Rhythm, their second full length album, on Shiver Records. The genre is hard to pin down: it is atmospheric black metal with elements of melodic death and doom amongst other genres. It is impossible to name all influences that can be heard in Thurisaz’s music, they are simply too many. Despite this the band manages to keep all the pieces together and they pull it off simply because they are really good musicians. At least they keep it together most of the time. Some parts of the album are just gorgeous but at times it feels like Thurisaz has bit off more than they can chew. I find it hard to overlook the slightly annoying parts of Circadian Rhythm but there are elements that are simply brilliant. I am not a big fan of atmospheric black metal but Thurisaz have almost convinced me, so anyone that is a fan of the genre should definitely check out this band.
