REVIEW: Thy Infernal - Warlords Of Hell Napalm Records, 2001
7.5/10
Thy Infernal - Warlords Of Hell - cover art The American Thy Infernal is one of very few "major" label black metal bands who cling on strictly to their satanic image which is a bit strange since this was what black metal was all about in the beginning. It is a good thing that the music continues to develop though and I personally couldn't care less whether the band members are christians or satanists. It is basically the same thing and people still continue to jump from one camp to the other. The dark souls of Thy Infernal play very intense black metal in the more primitive vein, like a mix of Abigor and Darkthrone you might say. Why I mention Abigor is because they are on the same label and Darkthrone because of the (deliberately???) bad production. All the black metal lyrical cliches can be found in the song titles - armageddon, hell, satanic and so on. The music is also kind of like a cliche and it feels like this album has already been done a hundred times before. What saves Thy Infernal is that even though they are walking in old footsteps they are doing it fairly well. The intensity of the music will surely not leave you without traces. The many nice melodic outbursts also help you through the whole album. With a better production and more dynamic vocals Thy Infernal will sound as powerful as they should.
