REVIEW: Tiamat - Cain Century Media, 2003
7/10
Tiamat - Cain - cover art "Cain" - the first, and maybe only (there could perhaps be a second one, but not more than that), single taken from Tiamat's new album "Prey" includes three songs. These consist of two tracks from the album, namely "Cain" and "Love in chains" together with a cover of W.A.S.P.'s old powerballad "Sleeping (in the fire)". I think few will be surprised as I say Tiamat sound the same as they have over the last few years, producing poppy, easy-listened to gothic metal. The main track "Cain" is a nice tune, which with its catchy, up-tempo chorus will surely add some new fans of vocalist Johan Edlund and his henchmen. Together with a video this single serves as excellent promotion for the band, and I think "Cain" will be seen and heard quite frequently both here and there. Even though they actually manage to pull off an old W.A.S.P. tune in a decent manner which is impressive. I would still definitely recommend buying the actual album rather than this single to pretty much anyone. But for some reason singles actually sell, and I think "Cain" will do quite well. If you own the album but want to get your hands on the W.A.S.P. cover I'm pretty confident it can be obtained on some other cheaper and less space consuming media than on this disc. If you're a huge fan, or have way too little money for your own good and cannot afford the entire album, this single will do it for you, but I definitely feel that buying the album and skipping this single is the way to go.
