REVIEW: Tierra Santa - Las Mil Y Una Noches Locomotive Music, 2003
5.5/10
Tierra Santa - Las Mil Y Una Noches - cover art Well, what can I say. This is funny! Tierra Santa is the first power metal band I've heard from Spain and they truly amaze me. On this 5 track live recording they manage to include every cliché available and I guess that every single one of the old heavy metal spirits were with them that night when the show took place! The audience help them on almost every chorus making the feel of a real live performance very present. I don't understand a single word but nevertheless... it rocks like hell! The band is very tight and the singer very skillful. I can't say the music is very special. A little Iron Maiden there, a little Kai Hansen there etc. It's the language that really makes it go to the higher levels! And the very "happy Helloween guitar stuff" they always tend to return to somewhere in every song helps too. Just like the good production. Can't help it but I just get these images inside my head of Mexicans in big sombreros on their horses. Standing beneath a balcony where a light dressed and very nice looking Mexican girl stands listening while they sing and play their guitars (electric ones). Don't know if that is Tierra Santa's intention with their tunes. But hey... is'nt it always nice with free interpretations of music? Anyway... this is first class party - read kick arse- music and it makes you happy listening to. I almost laughed my brains out when I first got it into the cd-player and the next time I get people over for a beer this disc is what we'll be listening to!
