Time Machine. The Italian Dream Theater, if you will. That's the first thing that popped into head when I first fired this CD up. They are Dream Theater..... but Italian. So, needless to say, if you like bands like Dream theater or Pain Of Salvation, you'll probably dig Time Machine. I think this is a concept album, but I'm not too sure what the story is, if it is one. But the whole album has this conceptual feel to it, like the songs are connected. And this being a prog-metal band.......it most likely IS a concept album.
As for the songs themselves, they're not that bad. Most of them have a very nice, moody atmosphere, thanks in big part to the keyboards. The songs are catchy, for the most part (see: "Grains Of Sand", "Rotten Souls"). But the main problem with this album, is that some songs just don't take off, they kind of just.....sit there. They don't ignite and tend to get a bit boring. (see: "Seeds Of Revolution", "Tears Of Jarusalem") And that's very frustrating, because it could start off very interesting, like the intro to "Tears Of Jarusalem", and then just kind of fall down slowly, and become a bit limp. But that's really my only complaint, save for the short little intro tracks, I've never really been a fan of those, when they're just sitting there for no reason. They work sometimes, like "The Hellion" by Judas Priest compliments" "Electric Eye" beautifully and even enhances the song. but here..... that doesn't happen.
Other than that, if power/prog is your thing, look into this album, as you will find much to like here. But on the other sde of the fence, if you don't care much for this stuff, this is not going to change your mind. For power/prog metal fans only.
