REVIEW: Time Requiem - The Inner Circles Of Reality Regain Records, 2004
7.5/10
Time Requiem - The Inner Circles Of Reality - cover art The Swedish progressive metal band Time Requiem features some of the most talented instrumentalists that our country has to offer. The band is made up of vocalist Apollo Papathanasio, guitarist Magnus Nordh, bassist Dick Lövgren, keyboardist Richard Andersson and drummer Peter Wildoer, musicians with experience of everything from death / thrash metal to classic hard rock. The band is more or less Majestic who have continued with a different name after having released two albums for Massacre Records. Sometimes progressive metal bands have the tendency to overdo their technical endeavours, resulting in a highly complex but rather boring recording. This is luckily not the case with Time Requiem as they have put some effort into writing actual songs instead of an endless series of time shifts, scales and pointless solos. Most of the time it feels just right and there is very much of a Symphony X feeling over the whole album. Apollo doesn't have quite the vocal power that Russell Allen possesses but he nevertheless performs very well. As a tribute to one of the most talented guitarists ever the album is finished off with the "Bach Prelude Variation". A well held together album that, despite a certain lack of originality, is recommended to fans of progressive metal in the Symphony X vein. The Japanese version of the album also comes with a cover of Abba's classic "Voulez-vous".
