REVIEW: To Elysium - Dearest Vile Cold Blood Industries, 2002
7/10
To Elysium - Dearest Vile - cover art The Dutch metal scene is only growing stronger and stronger for each year and new national labels are bringing forth the best that the country has to offer. Cold Blood Industries is the label of God Dethroned's Henri Sattler and they have managed to find this very unique and promising new gothic metal act called To Elysium. They actually remind me a little of their countrymates After Forever but their approach to the music is more aggressive. In comparison with After Forever the vocals are not as strong and this is something they should try to work on in the future. If they could make the growling sound like Tristania and the female vocals like Therion I would be very impressed but that is almost impossible to achieve. You have to be realistic and this band has definitely done the best possible with the capacity of the band. When the gothic doom metal explosion started out with Theatre Of Tragedy, Tristania and others there were a lot of bands trying to copy their sounds or refine it slightly but To Elysium doesn't need to copy. They have found their own sound and to tell you the truth they are one of the few interesting new gothic metal bands out there today. They are also a very young band and if you are recording your debut album for a label so quickly (the band was formed in 2000) you have to have something out of the ordinary in you.
