REVIEW: Tokyo Dragons - Give Me The Fear Escapi Music, 2005
5/10
Tokyo Dragons - Give Me The Fear - cover art Tokyo Dragons have released their debut album ‘Give Me The Fear’, produced by Pedro Ferreirra (who produced The Darkness’ Permission To Land). Mixing Thin Lizzy with among others AC/DC and a touch of The Darkness, ‘Give Me The Fear’ has every possibility to be a really good Rock n Roll record. Too bad that most of the tracks on the album doesn’t quite reach that. Sometimes there is a gleam of the “punchy-as-hell-fight-rock” Tokyo Dragons reputation say they play, like in 'Rockin’ The Stew', that anyway makes me wiggle my toes. But most of the tracks give me the feeling that something is missing. The aim seems to be on shallow, harmless fun, but the lack of self-irony and the inability to deliver the energy that the band probably have got on stage makes ‘Give Me The Fear’ uninteresting. This kind of rock will probably work better on stage, but on record it’s just boring.
