Texas based thrash metallers Torture first released their debut full-length "Storm Alert" back in 1989. Sadly this forgotten riff happy gem turned out to be the band's only one as they split up when the thrash metal scene had to give way to death and grind. Who ever said that metal fans don't follow trends? Swedish metal epicures Escapi Music have luckily discovered the talents of this highly underrated band and decided to celebrate the revival of Torture by re-releasing their classic, revitalized with a new mix and master done by none other than renowned knob specialist Neil Kernon. Even though the sound has certainly received the polish needed, the song writing qualities of Torture is what makes "Storm Alert" an album that is likely to be enjoyed by young metal fans even today, more than 15 year after its original creation. Utilizing tools of their trade such as acoustic intros and memorable riffs the similarites of early Annihilator are striking. In the midst of all the blood, slaughtering and torture, a thrash metal band must never abandon their sense of humor. "Slay Ride" is as silly as the title implies but it serves its purpose and is not at all a bad song. Metal fans who don't believe "Alice In Hell" is out of date should definitely pen down Torture on the palm of their hand not to forget about this American gem. The timing of "Storm Alert" was not right in 1989 but I sincerely hope that it will not go by unnoticed once again. Remember, children, it's thrash, not trash and it is excellent.
