"Unter Knochen", Totenmond’s fourth full-length studio album (after "Lichtbringer" [1996], "Fleischwald" [1998] and "Reich in Rost" [2000], not counting the EP "Vaeterchen Frost" [1997] and the cover versions compilation "Auf dem Mond ein Feuer" [2001]), proves a certain maxima once again: There is simply NO COMPROMISE when it comes to this German deathcore trio’s offerings! Evil, hatred-loaded tracks sung in the guys' native language – that’s what has erupted once again from the cruel minds and instruments of Pazzer (infernal roars and guitars), his brother S.P. Senz (drums), and bass player Senf. Not counting the freezing intro and the monstrously frightening outro "Kreuz oder Kopf" (followed by a dozen minutes of silence... and then a "hidden" track which sounds audibly as a rehearsal recording), "Unter Knochen" invades the listeners’ world with Totenmond’s typical deadly breed of Carnivore meets Drecksau meets Sepultura meets Crowbar, or something like that... However, this time the three Germans have made their songs somewhat faster, more straightforward and hardcore-like, and with not that good sound quality (especially regarding the drums). Well, yes, the obligatory (at least for this band) slow and panzer-heavy passages are present again (especially in cuts like “Leuchtquell” and “Eiswalzer”), giving the tracks the unique touch that was to be sensed so clearly in the previous full-length hammer “Reich in Rost”, but as whole... Yeah, grinding and evil, but not the way it used to be...
