Yes, this is a killer doom release. The swedish guys of Tristitia managed with the help of Dan Swanö to create a very dark, sad and intense album.
Their demo "one with darkness" gave an impression of what will come, but crucidiction is more mature, powerful and the production is clear and very well done.
The songs on crucidiction are basically slow tempo with faster moments, prominent bass guitar, they are very melodic and led by a vocalist who must not fear any comparisons with the unbelievable Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass). His voice belongs to the best of today´s doom scene: Powerful, dark and highly remarkable. Blackish screams or slow, melancholic parts; Thomas Karlsson does a very good job. An other reviewer anywhere on the web criticized, that the song structures would not be too complex. That is right, but I don´t care when the songs are such cool pieces! Just listen to the standout
tracks “wintergrief” and “final lament” (which is one of my all time favourite doom songs) and judge by yourself.
The cd starts with a cool, but way too short song called ego sum ressurectio and features a powerful gregorian choir. Strangely it ends up with a kind of a weird noise/sound that hurts your ears and makes you wish to get deaf. Not sure, what this outro shall mean... I would definitely cut it off. But who cares, the following track already kicks your ass again and so does the rest of crucidiction, although "mark my words" never grew on me.
Crucidiction was re-released in 2000 with 5 bonus tracks of their demo “one with darkness”.
