Trollheim's Grott - Bizarre Troll

Technology - cover art There currently are very few albums that stand out in terms of originality and avoid the "Been there-done that" moniker that is present within the world of music. But with Trollheim's Grott debut album Bizarre Troll Technology there is finally an album that is as unique as it is truly excellent. Never straying far from the concept of black metal this band shows an incredible amount of range and proves that they are capable of anything. Most of the album reaches speeds somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 BPM but within the fold lies traces of atmospheric synth oriented music with almost operatic vocals laid over the top. Trollheim’s Grotts music even obtains the quality of a third dimension as every millimeter of disc space is covered with music. There is also a certain catchiness and smoothness to the tracks rhythm that can be credited to the equal contribution of guitar, synth and drums. Every instrument is given its time to shine but not all in unison. Some of the tracks are driven by the chunky guitar work that gives the album an overall heaviness. Some tracks are synth driven giving the album it's more ambient and melodic feeling. One thing for certain is that "The Troll Syndicate" know their instruments well and they are not afraid to tear away at them with a devious ferocity. Even the title of the album fits perfectly, as one look at the lyrical content will explain how bizarre these trolls can be.
