REVIEW: Tuatha de Danann - Tingaralatingadun Heavy Metal Rock, 2001
7/10
Tuatha de Danann - Tingaralatingadun - cover art When I reviewed the debut album from these Brazilian guys one or two years ago I mentioned that this band showed a lot of talent and promised more for the future. Here we go again with their second album which was released late last year. Mixing flutes, mandolins and violins with traditional metal instruments Tuatha de Danann has once again made a huge impression on me. This time the production is also a lot better than it was on their first effort although it can still be improved. I wonder why no major label picks this band up because they are sure worthy of a better record deal. I'm not saying this out of disrespect towards Heavy Metal Rock but I don't think they can push the band forward the way the bigger metal labels can. The songs are also more complex and elaborate in their structure this time and I'm glad to see that they are not standing still in their evolution the way some bands tend to do. The vocals are mostly clean or choirlike with some occasional screams and growls. This is one of the best South American bands I've heard in a long time and if you have fallen in love with bands like Jethro Tull, Skyclad, Rhapsody and Blind Guardian I urge you to check them out. Except for the fact that they don't handle the English language with ease this is a very enjoyable album.
