REVIEW: Tuatha de Danann - Tuatha de Danann Heavy Metal Rock, 1999
6.5/10
Tuatha de Danann - Tuatha de Danann - cover art Brazil has managed to produce two well-known bands named Sepultura and Angra but there is so much more going on in the huge country. Tuatha de Danann is a very talented new band consisting of five young musicians. They have mixed lots of different metal influences into their music and also added a few native elements. The clean vocals are very melodic and the singer has a nice voice worthy of their music. Although there are heavier passages on the album most of it is rather light, more based on melody and harmony than speed and aggression. There are some very rare growling though. The use of flutes and acoustic guitars helps to create a very special atmosphere that makes me like this band. The tracks "Us" and "The Bards Of Infinity" starts off with some beautiful melodic work. These two songs are also the best on the album. It does have a couple of negative aspects as well. First of all the production is not perfect and especially the drums don´t sound too good all the time. Secondly the songwriting needs more maturity from the band since it is sometimes a little chaotic and without a real flow. Altogether this is a very interesting and unusual album though and Tuatha de Danann is a promising young band. I hope they continue to develop their skills and major labels should take notice of them very soon.
