I was impressed by the quality of the debut album from this Russian band a couple of years ago and when I received their new opus I was anxious to hear what had happened since then. First of all they have now been joined by band leader and founder Miron's wife Naturelle who is apparently a highly skilled musician as well. This second album was finished last year but due to various problems their former label sold all rights of the album to the Japanese label Worldchaos Production in November. There is now no doubt that Cradle Of Filth has been a major source of inspiration for Miron and his bandmates, mixing the majestic nature of classical music with the rage and fury of black metal. On this recording Tvangeste are joined by both the Baltic Symphony Orchestra, the Prussian Chamber Choir and a Polish drummer named Cezar Mielko from the band Dominion. The most notable difference between "Firestorm" and their debut album is that this time the whole production is more professional and the orchestral components are more advanced. The choir vocals are well held together and don't interfere with the rest of the music. Naturelle and Katya (first violin in the Baltic Symphony Orchestra) wrote all scores for each instrument - an impressive 300 sheets of notes. Good points: professional production, wonderful choirs and orchestral compositions, well written songs. Bad points: slightly monotonous drums and male vocals. Altogether this is a very good album that should please fans of melodic black metal.
