I will admit right from the start that I am not the biggest fan of Black Metal. To me this release by Twilight Ophera seems very much like a "by the numbers" symphonic Black Metal affair. It is, however, well recorded with excellent clarity in all the voices of the band. The typical, if not traditional, high-pitched Black Metal vocals are punctuated by Doom sounding growls and while this is a nice touch, I do not think this is enough of a difference maker. This will unfortunately always remind me of Cradle of Filth, particularly some of the vocals, though with much less posturing. Twilight Ophera is also not nearly as pretentious as Dani Filth and crew. Alternatively, this could be seen (and heard) as a second rate Dimmu Borgir clone, particularly owing to the clean vocals in “Pseudogods,” though infinitely less interesting. If you are a fan of well done Black Metal with decent riffing and a majestic vibe, this is for you. For me there is just not enough to make me want to listen to it more than twice.
