Tygers Of Pan Tang were one of the most important representatives of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) scene throughout the whole 80s. After two live albums in 2001 they released their first new studio work in close to 15 years the same year with "Mystical". Now it's time for another one bearing the somewhat peculiar title "Noises From The Cathouse" but looking closer at the band name you should be able to figure this play with words out for yourself. As you may already know only guitarist Robb Weir remains today from the original 1978 line-up but that is enough for me because his guitar riffs have always been the backbone of the Tygers' sound. This is a very intense album and although the old NWOBHM feeling is right there all the way through it sounds astonishingly fresh and powerful, at least to begin with. The general idea is to mix calm and slow sections with ultra-heavy riffing, sometimes bordering on doom metal but at other times being very fast indeed with a thrashier touch. Whether you are a fan of heavy rock music or traditional 80s metal you will certainly enjoy this release. The vocals by former Angel Witch voice Richie Wicks are well done while not being exceptional. The production is nice, clean and simple without many special effects. Starting out with a few very good songs the album unfortunately fades out towards the end and eventually you think that it is a bit too long. Still, a good solid release from the metal veterans.
