REVIEW: Type O Negative - October Rust Roadrunner Records, 1996
8/10
Type O Negative - October Rust - cover art Type O Negative fans will not be disappointed with this record. As usual they play their unique kind of light gothic metal - weird bass melodies, emotional and very deep vocals as well as dark slightly erotic lyrics and they do it very well too. This is not fast aggressive metal like Pantera or old Metallica - it is mostly slow emotional and somewhat majestic metal, like a mix of rock and metal ballads, although there are some speedier parts in some songs. There are a couple of really great songs on this recording including one of my favourite songs of all time "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" that has a great keyboard melody in it. Unfortunately the rest of this album is not as great and sometimes the songs get too long, slow and noisy. But altogether it is a fairly good album by one of the big metal bands in the world who has toured with bands like Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, Queensryche, Danzig and Ozzy Osbourne. The album was recorded at Systems Two/Brooklyn, New York and engineered by Mike Marciano. Guest performances was done by Val Ium and The Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir. If you have some money to spend this might be a good choice if you don't dislike slower metal.
