Finally Type O Negative are back after quite some time of silence. With their brand new dvd ”Symphony for the Devil” they indeed take a huge step forward from their previous video release ”After Dark”. When the latter was boring, pretentious and containing mostly music videos, this release is a whole lot more exciting. The main part of the dvd consists of live footage from Type O:s apperance at the Bizarre Festival in 1999. The sound quality is excellent, but it's a little sad they picked a concert from close to a decade ago. Well, whatever, the footage and sound is neat, so why complain. Between the songs there are tour/various clips, some of which are hilarious. And as mentioned above this time around they don't hold back trying to look good, resulting in some serious laughs from my part. The footage of Pete inserting fake teeth and making high pitched sounds while dying his hair is priceless. There are however some things which annoy. The biographies are lame as hell, and could frankly have been left out. The private footage consists of a short clip where pics slide by, ranging from really old to new, and it could have been done way better than that. There is also an interview in there, and the sound quality of it is mediocre. As I watched a promo version and I'm not sure whether this is the final release or not some of the above criticism might be void, but I guess you'll find out for yourself. There is also supposed to be a single with a Santana medley included which I did not receive, so I really can't comment on that one. Anyways I'm gonna buy the real deal, and I if you like Type O I definitely recommend you do the same. The bulk of this release is great, and its flaws can easily be ignored/forgiven.
