The sound of "Bleak Vistae" is quite fuzzy and cocoon-like, slowly but immediately alleviating the severity of my depression and comforting me like a soothing bowl of risotto. The beginning sounded like a semi-grand entry into a mystical soundscape, though it’s soon realized that this semi-grand entry is the mystical soundscape. The album is in its entirety an endless and weary march through a dark and dusty path, bleak, yet calm and absolute. Nothing comes as a surprise and yet nothing is supposed to. When Mäkelä and Lindkqvist do deviate from their conventional musical pattern, it is nothing but pleasing to my ears and beautiful in my mind. In the middle of track two, the guitars were sped up in half for a few bars, yet even with my blood-pressure at an all-time low, it didn’t nearly give me a heart attack. Little things happen that are like treasures scattered throughout the album. The miniscule changes, a scant dancing of piano keys—they are like coins and food in a video game. You absorb them, and they give you strengh and life. Each song is a good thirteen to nearly seventeen minutes long, much more than just a musical composition with a resolute sequence of chorus and melodies. This is true art without a fixed form, its dreadful lengh, never abandonning you. You are surrounded, immersed, and enlightened. I estimate that up to 95% of metalheads can not appreciate or realize the value of this quality funeral doom, but I could not have picked up a better album to listen to than this an hour ago. This album totally calmed my erratic emotions as I feel it is as solid as a tombstone. My mind has not been this clear for days. Tyranny possesses healing powers.
