Evocative, crushing, overwhelming funeral doom metal from the cold depths of two Finnish souls. This is a possible description of the music contained in these five tracks. Previous release by Tyranny, suggestively called “Bleak Vistae”, was already an uncompromising piece of music able to compete with the great bands of the genre. The collection of sounds hereby portrayed is nothing but a sudden, unrelenting foray into your mind, willing to stir the waters of your senses and emotions and taint them in black, pitch black. Ultra slow doom metal, depressive as the pits of hell themselves. Acts like Until Death Overtakes Me or Skepticism come to mind as “Tides Of Awakening” is played in the stereo. Even Esoteric´s “Subconscious Dissolution Into The Continuum” album could have something in common, too, with those long delayed guitar notes resounding like a dying orchestra strings. Ambient doom, slow to the extent of becoming atmospheric: an oppresive but gloomily pleasant atmosphere. The climatic side of the music is highly intense; the abysmal sentiment of the album transports you through nightmare reveries, deep landscapes of seclusion which Tyranny weave with wit and wisdom. Production is chasm-like and entrancing, rather acceptable; nevertheless, the ultra-low frequencies sometimes sound too thick and swollen for my taste (for example in the beginning of “Upon The War-Torn Shape Of Cold Earth”). Feel the songs, dense as their titles, embrace you in the dark; feel the inhuman growlings threat your sorrows; sink into the tunnel Tyranny music represents, and your perception of the world will change for a while. Tyranny is one of the best ultra doom experiences of the scene and this album shouldn´t be missed whatsoever by the chosen few who love this style.
