REVIEW: Ueickap - Stereotyped Uck records, 2006
7/10
Ueickap - Stereotyped - cover art Luckily for the band Ueickap I don’t judge a band because of a silly name (yes you’re right, it’s pronounced “wake up”). It’s quite obvious on their album “Stereotyped” that these Italians are skilled musicians. The dark and atmospheric sound has got some Lacuna Coil, some Guano Apes and sometimes a touch of Muse in it. What impresses me most is the vocalist Irene Fraccaveno, she is indeed a great singer and she saves some songs that would be boring with a voice of less quality than hers. And with that said we’ve come to a problem that many bands are struggling with, it does not matter if you are the best musicians in the world if you don’t write good songs. Ueickap has got some tracks that are great, like the track “Stereotype” and the beautiful “Why”, but some of the songs lack something. Irene’s voice can only save parts of it. The band has only been active since 2003 and considering that, and the fact that “Stereotyped” are their first full-length album, this is a good record. The Lacuna Coil fans should definitely give this band a try, and so should all of you who, like me, are suckers for a great voice.
