REVIEW: Ulvhedin - The Pagan Manifest Einheit Produktionen, 2004
5.5/10
Ulvhedin - The Pagan Manifest - cover art Despite Ulvhedin exist since 1994 this is their only full-length album, that was to be released through Native North Records but since bankruptcy wiped this label off the face of Earth, there was a quest for an interested record label, and finally the German guys at Einheit Produktionen were the chosen ones. Apparently “The Pagan Manifest” was recorded in 1999, by the way... Well, let´s go for the music. Long is the shade of Borknagar and Einherjer under which these Norwegian guys stand, that´s pretty evident. So here we have pagan / black metal with mostly clean vocals and mid tempos. Melodies are mainly conducted by guitars and the presence of synths is rather scarce or in the background. However, I´ve been very disappointed about the melodies, mostly easy and dull –a bit soulless, something similar to some Einherjer albums-. “The Pagan Manifest” has strong similarities with Borknagar´s third and fourth albums and Einherjer´s “Dragons Of The North”, and indeed in my opinion these ones are not certainly great masterpieces. Surely many would kill me for having stated that, but I don´t give a damn. This CD has nothing more than a couple of songs certainly good; the rest isn´t able to catch the attention of a demanding listener more than some minutes. Here we have another viking metal album without any trace of magic inside (and there´s plenty of these...). Recommended just if you´re an Einherjer freak or something similar willing to swallow anything wearing the viking tag on it...
